Project #01 | Art Farm – Lysos Nest
Project Development – Redesign of the Art Farm into a Day Center for People with Disabilities
This project is particularly close to our hearts. The non-profit organization LYSO’s Garden, founded by Eva Lang and Waltraud Sperlich, has been doing unique work in Kalamata for almost 10 years.
LYSO’s Garden is a non-profit organization that supports young people with mental, physical, and multiple disabilities. With the LYSO’s Garden project in Kalamata, they provide an education in organic gardening to young women and men with disabilities. They are a unique institution in Greece, as there are generally no training centres for young adults with disabilities in this country.
They currently offer 40 young people the necessary training to become proficient in organic gardening, and thus enabling them to be part of everyday life here in Greece. In doing so, they promote their inclusion in society.
The History of LYSOS Garden
LYSO’s Garden was founded in 2016 with a €50,000 grant provided by a Liechtenstein foundation.
Since then, LYSO’s Garden has become a popular meeting place in Kalamata. There is also a weekly market on the grounds, where the young people proudly and happily sell their organic produce.
Current Situation
The project is currently solely funded through donations, making any medium- or long-term planning impossible. The goal is therefore to convert the current teaching facility into a daycare centre. This would qualify Lysos for public funding. As a daycare centre, LYSO’s Garden would be eligible for government subsidies and European funding programs, which in turn would ensure the sustainable financing of the project in the long term.
The Vision – The Art Farm – a Day Care Centre for People with Disabilities
When Eva Lang told me about her project and the possibility of acquiring the Art Farm for this purpose, it was immediately clear to me that we would be delighted to support this project in its development, both in terms of planning as well as the organisation. Our partner firm and civil engineer Stavros Stavropoulos is advising and supporting the project with building regulations.
The first stage is complete!
We are all delighted that LYSO’s Garden was able to acquire the Art Farm with the first donations in March 2025!
The Art Farm
The self-contained area with existing buildings and plenty of open space is already almost ideally suited for their needs. Here at Lyso’s Farm, they will not only be able to offer many more young people who are already on the waiting list to join the program, a professional future, but also provide further essential experience to the young women and men that have already been trained.

The day centre offers the following opportunities:
- Training in organic gardening and gastronomy
- Establishment of additional workshops for traditional crafts, for example, carpentry, sewing, pottery, and candle-making
- Cultural events by and for our young women and men
- Inclusive meeting place
- Support for this project is warmly welcomed!
Anyone interested in supporting this project is, of course, very welcome!
